PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Hello Lions,
Fall is here and we will be busy as always. Before we begin with our Fall activities I want to thank you for the great support you have each given to Western Branch Lions during the 1st quarter of our year. Congratulate yourselves on a job well done. To date we have hosted the exchange student luncheon with Churchland: Collected MANY stuffed animals for the children served by the RAM project: Had 3 members work at the RAM project: Collected school supplies for the children at the HER shelter: Completed and RATIFED our new constitution and bylaws: Provided the services of 6 Western Branch members and 2 Churchland Members to serve the Sight and Hearing Van for the Portsmouth School Employees Wellness Day, and received the report from the financial review team which found the books kept by our Treasurer to be excellent condition. It’s hard to believe that this has only been the 1st quarter of the year.
Secretary Barbara has been working on producing our first club directory and list of all committees. This has been an objective of the Club’s for many years. Thanks Lion Barbara.
As always in life, we now have to look ahead to the fund raising work needed to support our other community and District obligations. Lion Dan has made the arrangements for the Fall White Cane collections to be held at Sam’s Club at Chesapeake Square Mall on October 9, 10 and 11. We need everyone to sign up for at least two shifts. Because of the location, weather is not the issue it has been previously.
The next fund raising effort will be our last Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast. It is scheduled for November 28th. Each of us needs to take the responsibility to sell tickets as well as plan to staff the event. This event has a major impact on our ability to meet the needs of the community and District.
Eye screening is beginning and Lion Jill really needs help. She will train you to do whatever you are comfortable doing. We are leaders in this project and it continues to have a major impact on the lives of children. Birthday gifts for auction this month should include the birthdays from June, July, August and September. The next auction will include birthdays in October and November. We are having a field trip to the Eye Bank in Norfolk for our October meeting. Car pools will be arranged for this very special meeting and I hope all will attend.
Keep up the great work Lions,
President Phyllis
