CHESAPEAKE WESTERN BRANCH LIONS CLUB
The Chesapeake-Western Branch Lions Club, commonly known as the Western Branch Lions Club (WBLC) was chartered in 1992. The Club’s service area consists of parts of Chesapeake and Suffolk, and is the area in which most fundraisers are held, and where service to those less fortunate is rendered. The boundaries are specified in the Club’s charter and are available upon request of the Club Secretary. Most members are from Suffolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth.
Locally, the WBLC is very active in supporting youth programs. A major Club program screens preschoolers for eye problems, ages 3-5years of age. WBLC assists other clubs in the Lions District 24-D with similar screening. The Club supports the annual Bland Music Competition, a statewide competition offering vocal and instrumental scholarships to high school aged students. WBLC is supportive of the Triple “R” Camp for diabetic youth.
In addition to Youth related programs, WBLC supports local food banks and shelter programs for abused and/or homeless individuals.
Western Branch LIONS financially supports those suffering from natural or man-made disasters, such as hurricanes, fires and other calamities that have devastated not only our area, but others throughout the country and world, including the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Such assistance is generally through combined efforts of other district clubs, via the Lions Charity Foundation (LCF) of 24-D, the Lions of Virginia Foundation (LOVF) and the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF)
WBLC members are expected to be active in club sponsored projects and to periodically receive training consistent with Lions International and District recommendations. INFORMATION
