Spring/Fall -

        Community Fundraiser: Lions collect contri-  

    butions from the general public.  All contributions

    are returned to local area charities or needy

    individuals.

        Yard Sale: (May be either/or Spring/Fall)

    Blind-made Products Sale -    Lions go door to  

    door or pre-sell broom for three or four nights in

    May.

    Sight/Hearing Conservation - Screen

    preschoolers; provide free sight, hearing and  

    eye-pressure screenings using the Lions Mobile

    Sight & Hearing Unit of District 24-D, Inc.; collect

    eye glasses, lenses, cases and hearing aides for

    use throughout this country and others.  WBLC

    financially supports the Lion Eye Bank, Leader

    Dog School,  Prevent Blindness  VA,   Lions

    Eyeglass Recycling Center, Lions of VA Hearing

    Foundation, etc.

    Youth Outreach - Youth Exchange: Members

    host foreign youth in homes 2-3 weeks; WBLC

    co-hosts a luncheon for campers and supports

    the District 24-D YE Camp.  Bland Contest:

    WBLC co-hosts a zone contest and reception for

    competitors.  Diabetes Camp: WBLC supports

    financially.  Peace Poster Contest: Club sponsors

    a junior high school, international art contest

    annually; Spinoza Bear: Club gives a tape-talking

    bear to critically ill children.

    Other - WBLC supports many local charities,

    some: American Red Cross, Help & Emergency

    Response (HER) Shelter, Food Banks, Scouts and

    area conservation projects. It also supports LCF of

    24-D, LOVF and LCIF, all of which work on

    supporting larger needs than just those one club

    can support - and are frequently, district, state- 

    wide or international in nature.
