PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Western Branch LIONS,

Greetings from CT, where we’re visiting family.  Once again, I want to thank all of you who have participated in our many projects so far this year – and those who will participate in them the rest of the year.  It is amazing how much is left to be done!

Four of our LIONS, including LION Clayt’, participated in screening the homeless on 24 April.  Of 50 folks screened, 42 were given reading glasses!  More than a dozen are expected to apply for monetary assistance for exams, glasses  or hearing aides from the various Chesapeake LIONS Clubs participating in the Chesapeake LIONS Task Force.

LION Vera has been successful in getting a super location for a Western Branch LIONS Yard Sale.  Pastor Cathy, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church (4811 High Street) said we could use their parking lot – and, in case of rain, have the sale inside!  This will be June 21st.  So, save and price your goodies to contribute.  We will not be having our normal Spring White Cane collection due to problems with where we normally have them.  So, we need to do well with this additional fundraiser, in addition to our Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s on May 24th.

We had good representation at the World Wide Induction Day at the Leadership Training Day at Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Center on April 19th.  Welcome Aboard, LIONS Barbara Menoni, Yvette and Willis Roberts!   We hope to have a fourth new LION inducted before Lion Year’s end.  Noel Meyers has submitted an application and will be considered at the Combined Board of Directors’ Board Meeting on 6 May.

The Journey for Sight at Fort Story also had good participation by Western Branch LIONS.

Our LIONS will also be represented at the Diabetes Camp and be working at the Michelob Ultra Gold Tournament.

Unfortunately, only three of us will be in Bristol at the State Convention, mid-May.  If by chance you find you can attend, please check to see if you can still go.

Please check your calendars and plan on attending the District Meeting on 12 June at Khedive Temple in Greenbrier, Chesapeake.

If you’ve not yet made reservations for our Installation Dinner on June 17, 2008; please consider doing so.  You will be being called – to ensure we have the numbers needed for this fun event, welcoming LION Ellen and her incoming Board for a wonderful new Lions’ Year.

See you at the Pancake Breakfast!

Sell more tickets!

When males take over a pride, they usually kill the cubs. The females come into estrus and the new males sire other cubs.
