PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Western Branch LIONS,

It seems absolutely impossible that this is the last “President’s Message” I’m writing to each of you.  This LIONS Year has flown by – and we still seem to be at full throttle.

First, I want to thank each and every one who has so LION-heartedly helped Western Branch LIONS Club – members, friends, fellow LIONS from other clubs and District, and last but not least, our family members (who often put up with so much so we LIONS can “Build a Brighter Future” for those less fortunate than ourselves). Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Second, as I mentioned above, we aren’t finished yet.  There is still much to do!  I’ll try to list them in chronological order so you can check you calendar while reading this message.

On 9 June, LION Vera needs as much muscle and auto power as possible to move leftover goodies from Church of the Resurrection to St. Andrews for storage for our upcoming yardsale.

The District Meeting at Khedive Temple is Thursday, 12 June.  (This is a change from the original date.)  Please let PDG Barbara know if you will be attending.  This is a very important meeting, particularly for incoming officers; but it is recommended for new LIONS and more senior LIONS as well – a lot of information is passed.  Please consider attending.

Our INSTALLATION Dinner is scheduled for 17 June.  Please plan on a bit of extra time due to being checked into the Coast Guard Base by Base Security.  Everyone in the car MUST HAVE a picture ID ready to present, and the driver, his/her driver’s license.  We will have provided Security a list of all attending.  We have 53 LIONS and guests who have made reservations.  We have a few special guests.  If this is an indication of how 2008-2009 will be, it looks like the Club will have an excellent year!

Following on the heals of the Installation is our Spring Yard Sale at St. Andrews on 21 June.  LION Vera has requested that you gather up unneeded hangers (for hanging clothes), items from your home, storage sheds or attics that you don’t need, and get them to the church for the yard sale.  She said “We really need some “big items.”  If you cannot work the yardsale, can you please bake some homemade goodies to be sold there.  Folks at yardsales seem to like to snack – and don’t mind buying the snacks (especially homemade).

The International Convention is 23-27 June in Bangkok, Thailand.

The State Convention in Bristol, VA/TN (Yes, the city is in two states.) was very nice.  District 24-D had very good representation and a stiff election for VDG.  Next year LION Doug Mueller will be DG; LION Gary Rapier will be VDG.  Come to the District meeting and hear about more cabinet positions.  The BLAND Contest was another convention highlight.  Western Branch LIONS Club, along with 11 others, was recognized for their scholarship contribution.  Each was given a Certificate of Appreciation and a Patch for their Club Banner.

I’d be remiss to not mention the great effort at the Michelob and the Pancake Breakfast.  Great Jobs!  Thank you, all who assisted – in any way.  Hopefully we’ll have final totals by year’s end.

If you weren’t aware, we had some sad news this month.  LION Virginia broke her hip.  At this writing she’s in MaryView Nursing Home across from College Drive; LION Tiny wound up with a bout of Vertigo; but, is back home.  Both will be at the Installation. ;-)

For all illnesses, a death, transfers, resignations, WE’VE DONE GR-R-R-REAT! - because of YOU.  Special thanks to new members who have energized WBLC!  Blessings to all!

LION Peg, Proud President, WB Lions Club
